Learning to deal with an aggressive dog is serious business.  This problem may not seem too difficult when you first bring home your sweet little tiny puppy who is wholly dependent on you for everything.  When that puppy grows up, he or she becomes quite a danger to yourself and everyone else.  

Therefore, the best time to start dealing with an aggressive dog is right now.  The longer you let the issue slide, the more time it has to develop into a dangerous problem.  Indeed, this kind of training isn’t necessarily a simple one, but with consistency and perseverance, you’ll be able to transform that terrifying beast into a darling, lovable pet.  

Of course, not all aggressive dog problems are something that you can deal with by yourself.  If you feel that you cannot confidently handle your dog’s hostile behaviors then it might be a good idea to seek the help of an expert trainer who is experienced with canine behavior modification in reactive cases.  

This may be the situation if your dog is large and quite vicious. However, if your dog is small or the aggression has not yet become too severe, then you may be able to work with your animal friend to change this undesirable and potentially dangerous behavior.

Start by identifying the triggers that are most likely to bring about an aggressive dog streak.  This enables you to create the best possible environment in which to train your dog as you will have made a specific effort to reduce those triggers.  

The next step is to show your dog how to redirect those aggressive behaviors into something more acceptable.  To do this, you should start with obedience training as it will allow you to build up a basic communication with your dog where certain necessary words (such as “no”, “come”, “sit”, etc) are understood.  Having accomplished obedience training, you can continue by implementing anti dog aggression techniques through the communication and leadership skills you will have developed.

You won’t be able to do all of your training in one day, but if you make a regular habit of keeping the aggressive dog  at bay through consistency and love, you’ll bring out the fantastic pet in your pooch.
